Counterbalance has been commissioned to design the renovation and extension of their period property to create a high-quality professional 1st home. This involved adding an additional bedroom to their 1 bedroom ground floor apartment in Brixton Hill, London whilst maintaining a separate living, dining and kitchen space via a ground floor rear/side extension. The proposal also looks to improve circulation space and increase built-in storage.
The project is currently in construction and is due for completion in the spring of 2024.
The proposed single storey rear/side extension seeks to add both additional bedroom/floor space and improve the quality/layout of the apartment as a whole. It will create an enhanced relationship with the existing garden, which is currently accessed directly from the kitchen. Other works include various internal layout alternations, including the relocation of the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom, and the creation of a new bedroom/study. The central external courtyard allows for an additional bedroom whilst maintaining a large window to bring daylight directly into the centre of the plan.
