Lawford Road, Hackney

Counterbalance has been commissioned by the property owner to develop the detailed design and manage the renovation and extension of their period dwelling, transforming it into a high-quality family home that meets modern design standards and specifications.

The property is situated within the De Beauvoir Conservation Area, renowned for its well-preserved short terraces and houses dating from around 1830-1850. The existing dwelling is part of a three-storey Victorian terraced house that was converted into flats in the late 20th century. The home in question is a single-storey, one-bedroom apartment on the lower ground floor, which includes the rear garden.

Our Design
Approach

The proposal includes a new single-storey rear extension, allowing for the creation of an additional bedroom at the front of the property. Other works involve various internal alterations, such as the removal of chimneys and the relocation of the existing bathroom and kitchen. With the freehold owned by Hackney Council, we have closely collaborated with council officers to ensure the design is compliant and meets their expectations.

The project is currently under construction and is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2024.
