The owner of the property commissioned Counterbalance to review the existing layout and suggest improvements to help with home working and larger living, dining and kitchen areas. This entailed gaining householder planning permission for a 2-storey side extension.

Approach
The proposal creates a larger living room along with relocating the kitchen to provide an
open-plan cooking and eating space that faces out onto the rear garden. The old kitchen is to be converted into a home office or ground floor bedroom while adding a shower to the existing ground floor WC.

At the first floor a 5th double bedroom has been added along with an en-suite and built-in wardrobe to the primary bedroom, creating a large family home with the potential for four double bedrooms and two home office spaces making it ideal for parents working from home.

Planning permission was gained within a short timeframe with no neighbour objections.
